At Summer Springboard we believe learning should be inspiring and interactive. We have worked hard to design courses, field trips and guest lectures that reflect the resources of the San Diego area. Whenever possible, classes are held outdoors, on-site or in a lab-type setting to allow students as many ’hands on’ opportunities as possible.
Each afternoon we break out into small groups based on your academic program. During this time, students will dive deep into a specific subject area with creative, dynamic instructors, engaging professors and professional experts. Field trips and guest speakers take the learning experience beyond the classroom and leverage all that San Diego has to offer.
Are you interested in medicine, science, and technology? Is you goal to create a life-saving drug? This is a unique opportunity for high school students to gain real exposure and work in a biotechnology lab utilizing state-of-the-art equipment.
The goal of this program is to provide students intensive laboratory skills experience, and to understand fundamental chemical processes common in prokaryotic and eukaryotic biology, and classical and molecular genetics with an emphasis on gene expression and genetic engineering.
Drones are being sold in record numbers and taking to the skies. The FAA estimates that there would be more than 2 million drones registered by the end of 2019 in the US.
But did you know that in 2020, you have to be certified as an amateur or professional to legally fly a drone? If you have a passion for STEM and media, sign up for the Summer Springboard drone cinematography course for teens and ultimately receive your drone pilot’s license and proper certification so that you can fly safely and legally.

Our summer medical program for high school students gives you a 360 degree view of the medical and healthcare field, as well as immersive learning through hands-on projects and simulations.
Excursions at University of San Diego – Students will visit Mercy Air, a company that provides rapid transport by helicopter of critically ill and injured patients. In addition, they will get behind-the-scenes access to a hospital ward room, emergency or intensive care unit room, operating room, or procedural training room at the UCSD Simulation Center.
Fundamentals of Engineering
Engineering is one of the top desired careers in many companies. If you are considering a career in Engineering, this course will help you explore what it takes to be an engineer. We will explore facets of mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical engineering in a hands-on, minds-on approach.
Excursions at University of San Diego – Students will visit an engineering firm that creates devices to help handicapped people. This is a unique opportunity to meet firsthand with engineers and architects to learn how complex structures are designed given the constraints of the project.
Psychology & Neuroscience
Through psychology simulations and hands-on neurology workshops, you will explore the relationships between the brain and human behavior. Whether you are interested in the physical aspect of the brain and central nervous system or more intrigued by human behavior and thought processes, connect with professionals that have a background in both psychology and neuroscience.

Belmont Park is San Diego’s beachfront amusement park and boardwalk offering something for everyone since 1925. You'll have a blast whether it’s filled with adventure-packed activities on the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster or laid-back beachfront eating with friends.
Where culture, science, and nature collide, Balboa Park is home to more than 16 museums, lovely gardens, trails, and other recreational attractions, including the San Diego Zoo. With a variety of cultural institutions among its 1,200 acres, there is something for everyone.
Each academic program may also take subject matter specific excursions to help round out the student experience. Excursions may include: Jack in the Box Corporate Headquarters, a cutting edge biotechnology laboratory, an active construction site, and more.
Your home with Summer Springboard in San Diego will be university dormitories on the beautiful campus of University of San Diego.
Just like a college student at University of San Diego, students share a dorm room with roommates and use a common bathroom. Floors are gender-segregated and rooms contain an extra-long twin size bed, desks, drawers, mirror and a closet.
Your Resident Advisor (RA) will live on your hall to create a community, provide support, plan activities and help you get the most out of your stay at San Diego. Other members of the Summer Springboard staff also live on campus and are available to support students and tackle emergencies, 24 hours a day.
All dormitories have 24-hour security and uses electronic keys to enter each building and dorm room. University security is on 24-hour patrol and available to any student that may need assistance during the Berkeley summer program for high school students.
Your dormitory is part of a complex of buildings around a courtyard. Each building has laundry facilities, lounges and high speed wireless internet throughout.
The university is committed to providing a healthy, smoke-free environment for students, faculty and staff. Accordingly, no smoking is permitted in student rooms or inside buildings, including lounges and balconies.
Most meals on campus will be at the local dining hall, conveniently located near our dormitory. We can accommodate diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, or specific food allergies.
