Sunday, June 27

Today was check-in day! The students all had a chance to meet one another, and enjoy a delicious taco dinner.

Monday, June 28

Today the students went on a tour of the UCLA campus with representatives from the admissions office.

Tuesday, June 29 – Friday, July 2

Here’s what students have been up to this week in Los Angeles!

• Engineering students visited a construction site for a meeting about a golf-themed entertainment complex and learned about different branches of engineering
• Business & Entrepreneurship students took a trip to Fun Diggity Funnel Cakes
• Emergency Medicine students participated in various hands-on training exercises
• Film students toured Melody Ranch and the Grove in LA

Saturday, July 3 – Sunday, July 4

This past weekend was full of fun activities! Students visited the beach, Beverly Hills, and best of all – Six Flags amusement park!

The Emergency Medicine class took a trip to tour a Boston EMS facility led by Deputy Superintendent Len Shubitowski. Student got to see the inside of an ambulance, see the fleet of emergency vehicles, and operate the gurney.

• American U campus tour:
  • American University combines a tradition of strong undergraduate and graduate education with a focus on experiential learning, global leadership, and public service.
  • Fun fact – American University was chartered by Congress in 1893. An answer to George Washington’s call to create a national university in the nation’s capital.
• Business & Entrepreneurship Guest Speaker – Director of Communications & Public Affairs at Better Business Bureau
  • The Better Business Bureau, founded in 1912, is a private, nonprofit organization whose self-described mission is to focus on advancing marketplace trust.

• Six Flags America
  • Students had a blast at Six Flags America! Six Flags America is DC’s Thrill Capital featuring more than 100 exciting rides, games, shows
  • Six Flags America is divided into six themed areas inspired by the different extremes of the United States – Main Street, Chesapeake, Looney Tunes Movie Town, Mardi Gras, Gotham City, and Coyote Creek.
• College Life Panel
  • Student’s got the opportunity to ask the RAs all about the college experience – from the good to the bad!
  • The group of RAs represent current or recent grads from Northeastern University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and SUNY Brockport.

Day 6 & 7 of Summer Springboard (Session 2):

Highlights:

• DC Fun Day:
  • On Saturday, the students explored all around DC, where they got a chance to see some of the famous spots below:
    • Lincoln Memorial
    • MLK Memorial
    • Jefferson Memorial
    • Union Station
    • Natural History Museum
• Afternoon & Evening Activities
  • In between all of the academic and career exploration portions of Summer Springboard, students are enjoying the fun activities. A favorite was the blind lego contest and tye-dye t-shirts!
