Is your student showing an emerging passion for medicine? If so, this course is the perfect place to begin career exploration in medicine. Students in this course will explore the various roles in healthcare and learn about interdisciplinary teams. They will perform a physical assessment and review case studies in order for begin forming diagnoses. Students will also learn how to perform medical checks for vital signs, and dive into the various human systems such as, respiratory and circulatory. They will also learn the basics of cardio pulmonary rescucitation (CPR) and the usage of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Next, students will begin a deeper dive into major health conditions and their associated treatments. They will finish their program learning how to suture and reviewing splinting case studies.
Open to any middle school student who will be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in Fall 2023. Space is limited. Each session is limited to 35 students per track.
Classes will be held via Zoom and facilitated in real-time by the instructor and a classroom coordinator.
Certificate of Completion
Upon completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Summer Springboard
- Discover critical techniques in emergency medicine such as setting a splint and performing CPR.
- Work in teams as you research, diagnose, and develop a treatment plan for a "patient".
- Learn alongside medical professionals and gain behind-the-scenes knowledge of the emergency room.
