Creative writing is in our daily lives. It’s in the ad copy we read in a magazine or see on television, the lyrics to our favorite song, the unforgettable movie dialogue or a favorite line from a favorite novel. Creative writing defies and goes outside of the norm used in most professional, journalistic, academic, or technical writing. This course has an emphasis placed on craft, imagination, invention, and/or the use of literary techniques and devices. Students in this course will focus on a few disciplines of creative writing: gonzo and new journalism, script writing, poetry, and short story. Within each genre, students will dive into the tools and expertise need to develop a deeper understanding of creative writing as a whole.
Open to any high school student who will be entering freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year in Fall 2023. Space is limited. Each session is limited to 35 students per track.
Classes will be held via Zoom and facilitated in real-time by the instructor and a classroom coordinator.
