How can we anticipate and prevent the negative consequences of technology to design and deploy it more wisely?
Students will understand the complexities of contemporary science and technology policies as they relate to ethical theories and applications, as well as personal and societal values.

Course Overview

Technology continues to profoundly shape how we relate to one another, see the world, and accomplish our goals. As several recent controversies have prompted society to question the wisdom of Silicon Valley and technology firms, this hands-on workshop for teens will investigate the ethics of technology.

Instructor

Ryan Jenkins, Ph.D.

Ryan is an assistant professor in Philosophy at Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo). His interests are in applied ethics (especially military ethics and emerging technologies), and normative ethics (especially consequentialism). He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2014.
