Campus Overview
Hailed as ‘the land of opportunity’, spend your summer living in the innovative and cultural metropolis of New York. Comprising five boroughs and a multitude of eclectic and entirely different neighborhoods, see the culture and learn about the fascinating history of this city. Iconic skyscrapers, and the world’s major commercial, financial and cultural centers sit amongst iconic architecture where the Hudson meets the Atlantic Ocean. There are no end of places to explore as you experience the people, beauty and unique environment of this city.
Students will stay at residential housing in the heart of Manhattan.

Two-Week Summer Program
Residential Students
- Includes: all meals, lodging, excursions, academic course, weekend excursions
- Excludes: optional airport pickup and drop-off service (available for an additional fee)
Commuter Students
- Includes: lunch, academic course, excursions, programming from 9:30am to
6pm, Monday-Friday - Excludes: lodging, breakfast, dinner, weekend excursions (can be added on for $125 per day)
Supplements

Academic Courses

Interior Design II at NYSID
Pre-college ll introduces a dynamic shift towards the hospitality sector, incorporating the designs of hotels and restaurants.
Throughout the two-weeks, participants will explore the world of hospitality spaces by visiting some of the city’s premier hotels, as well as exploring various restaurants and cafes. The experiential learning extends beyond observation as students are encouraged to select a client and craft a designated space tailored to their needs, fostering a deeper understanding of design application.
Earn College Credits: Seize the chance to earn one college credit applicable towards an undergraduate degree at NYSID or for inclusion in your future college applications.

Photography in the City
This 2-week prep course lets high school students explore NYC’s iconic architecture while learning photography fundamentals from award-winning photographer Keith Williams. Using smartphones or digital cameras, students capture interiors and exteriors at Hudson Yards, the High Line, Central Park, and the World Trade Center. They’ll learn photographic vocabulary, image evaluation, and digital equipment techniques. Discussions and assignments cover composition, styling, and lighting.

Activities & Trips
Students will participate in immersive activities and guided trips throughout New York City, visiting renowned design showrooms, landmark hotels, celebrated restaurants, and iconic architectural sites.
These excursions offer firsthand exposure to diverse interior design styles and trends, enriching classroom learning with real-world inspiration and networking opportunities within the city’s vibrant design community.

New York City as your classroom, we will explore some of the must-see sights: Central Park, Top of the Rock, the High Line, the Vessel, Chelsea Market and much more. Excursions will include prestigious showrooms, art museums, and tours of design studios around the city that belong to NYSID alumni.
Course-Specific Excursions
Interior Design 1 students can expect to visit some of the most prestigious show rooms and design studios in New York. Interior Design II students will receive private tours through famously designed hotels like Regency Hotel and the Plaza. Gain inspiration from these elegantly designed buildings to influence your final project.

TYPICAL DAY IN THE LIFE
8:00am Breakfast
Enjoy breakfast with your fellow students as you get ready to start your day on-program. Most meals will be in the on-campus dining hall.
9:30am Academic Course
Take part in your selected academic course. This college-style learning experience is designed to give high school students hands-on exposure to a specific field of study.
12:30pm Lunch
Enjoy lunch in at the NYSID building or out in the surrounding area at local eateries. We can accommodate all kinds of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, and common food allergies—ensuring every student can find something satisfying and safe to eat while connecting with friends over a great meal.l.
1:30pm Academic Course or Academic Excursion
At Summer Springboard at NYSID, academic excursions are off-campus field trips that connect directly to each course, giving students real-world insight into their chosen field.
3:30pm College Readiness Workshop or True You
At Summer Springboard at NYSID, College Readiness Workshops help students prepare for life after high school with practical tools for navigating the college admissions process—covering topics like essay writing, interview skills, and application strategy. The True You curriculum focuses on self-discovery and personal growth, encouraging students to explore their strengths, values, and goals. Together, these sessions empower students to make confident, informed decisions about their future—academically, professionally, and personally.
6:00pm Commuter Students Depart
For those students that have selected the commuter option, they will depart campus for the day while residential students prepare for dinner and evening activities.
6:30pm Dinner
It’s been a long, eventful day! It’s time to head back to the residence hall or other dining location and eat well to restore your energy reserves before taking part in clubs or other nighttime activities.
8:00pm Clubs for Residential Students
Residential students will participate in clubs or other evening activities based on the specific itinerary for the day. It’s a great way to cap off another exciting day with Summer Springboard at NYSID!
10:30pm Dorm Checks for Residential Students
Residential students will turn in for the night to rest in their dorm rooms and get ready for the big day ahead tomorrow.
Housing
Just like a college student, students have a shared dorm room with roommates and use a common bathroom. Rooms are gender-segregated and contain an extra-long twin-size bed, desks, drawers, and a closet.
Summer Springboard staff will live on your hall to create a community, provide support, plan activities and help you get the most out of your stay in New York. Other members of the Summer Springboard staff also live on campus and are available to support students and tackle emergencies, 24 hours a day.
Security
All dormitories have 24-hour security. University security is on 24-hour patrol and available to any student that may need assistance.
Facilities
Dorms are suite-style, two or three double dorm rooms share a bathroom (4-7 students total). Each suite shares a kitchenette and there is a communal kitchen on some floors as well. There are 2 lounges in the building for use during free time, gym access, and laundry access.
Classrooms at NYSID are curated for designers and artists, with the latest technology available.
Dining
Most meals will be catered or eaten at local eateries, conveniently located near the dormitory. We can accommodate diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, or specific food allergies.
