Student Quote:

“I chose Summer Springboard this summer because I was interested in their engineering program and felt that I would learn a lot, get hands on experience, and make new friends.”

Highlights:

  • SF Fun Day
    • On Saturday, the students took a trip to SF, where they got a chance to see some of the famous spots below:
      • Golden Gate Bridge
      • Golden Gate Park
      • Haight Ashbury
      • Union Square
      • Pier 39
      • Ghirardelli Square
  • Medicine & Healthcare Activity – Mass Casualty Simulation
    • The students ran through procedures for dealing with an excess of wounded patients in a simulated case of a bomb going off in a city.
    • They learned how to assess injuries and set up triage.
  • College Life Panel
    • Student’s got the opportunity to ask the RAs all about the college experience – from the good to the bad!
    • The group of RAs represent current or recent grads from UCLA, U Mass Boston, Temple University, Rutgers, Dickinson College, Knox College, UC Riverside, and Wayne State University.
  • Engineering Guest Speaker – Travis Kwee, Cisco
    • Travis Kwee, Social and Environment Responsibility Specialist at Cisco, was a guest speaker in the engineering & innovation track.
    • Travis is a Rice University graduate (Mechanical Engineering and Energy & Water Sustainability) interested in sustainable design through supply chain, green buildings, & renewable energy.
    • Students asked tons of questions and Travis discussed the important role of sustainability and the environment in engineering.
