Have you wondered how Bitcoin really works? Blockchain is an underlying technology that uses the mathematical properties of numbers to create trust and security within various transactions. Students will learn about the first applications in cryptocurrencies and the formation of digital currencies, such as Bitcoin. They will learn how the power of blockchain will far surpass its current usage in cryptocurrencies and applications in a variety of industries and applications, such as financial technologies (fintech). In this course, students will learn about the fascinating history of money around the world, usages of blockchain technology and its components such as: cryptography, public and private keys, and distributed ledgers. Students will explore other types of cryptocurrencies emerging in the marketplace, as well as other uses of blockchain such as, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), smart contracts, logistics, and more. The course will culminate in a study of its usage in the financial technology industry. Students will learn why it’s becoming more important for them to acquire the necessary skills in blockchain as it becomes more embedded in a broad spectrum of professional fields.
Who
Open to any middle school student who will be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in Fall 2023. Space is limited. Each session is limited to 35 students per track.
How
Classes will be held via Zoom and facilitated in real-time by the instructor and a classroom coordinator.
Certificate of Completion
Upon completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Summer Springboard
