Course Overview
Students will learn firsthand from business veterans about starting and running a business. Over the course of the program, they will develop a plan for a new venture and pitch their idea to real world investors. Along the way, meet with leaders from different areas of business and finance.
Excursions at UC San Diego – Students will meet the CEO of Jack in the Box and visit Jack in the Box‘s Innovation Center, a product research, testing, and marketing center. We will also visit the Qualcomm Institute Startup Space where high tech companies are launched. In addition, we’ll meet entrepreneurs at The Basement, a business accelerator program at UC San Diego. We’ll also have the chance to visit a private incubator for companies in the life sciences industry.

Lauren Cazares, B.A.
Lauren is a fundraising professional and experienced event planner with a strong history of working in the non-profit sector and political campaign industry. Currently Lauren is the National Program Manager for WIT - Whatever It Takes, the leading program in the country for teen entrepreneur education. Her passion is in teaching & leading teens entrepreneurs to success. Lauren graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University cum laude in Political Science & Women’s Studies.

Students will examine best practices in Research and Development (R&D), Operations, Marketing, and Finance. Understand the mechanics of scaling a business while maintaining quality.
Students become part of a new company and configure themselves into teams working on various aspects of a business. The program culminates in a shark tank environment with professional investors.
