Program Highlights

Develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts of economics, such as supply and demand, market forces, and pricing
Discuss how economics played a key role in historical moments and build practical leadership skills
Discuss and apply economic theories to real-world scenarios and analyze how economic principles impact various sectors of society, such as labor markets, the environment, and international trade
Enhance skills in interpreting statistical information and using quantitative tools to make informed decisions
Gain a better knowledge of economics as a social science, therefore distinguish the concepts of labor, capital, land value, inflation, fiscal policy, and other political and social ideas
Examine how economists use the scientific process to expand their understanding of individual decision-making, market outcomes, and government policies, and apply the process by practicing curiosity and hypothesis testing
Debate economic issues in ways that promote mutual understanding and inquiry, demonstrate fluency in basic economic terminology and tools, and explain economic reasoning to incorporate insights from non-economists

Course Overview

Discover how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions about the use of scarce resources in a world of unlimited wants and needs, and what implications economic issues can cause, such as tax and inflation, interest rates and wealth, inequality and emerging markets, and energy and the environment. The Economics course will provide the structure required to understand the way our world operates, from the choices we make in our everyday lives to how businesses or governments achieve their desired objectives.

Course Structure

There are nine 3-hour class sessions over the two-week course. During week one, students have class from 9am-12pm, Monday - Friday. During week two students have class from 9am-12pm Monday through Thursday. Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to additional academic time (excursions, speakers).
