About This Course

A music production program for teens on a university campus in Los Angeles

Summer Springboard’s Music Production and Management program offers high school students an immersive experience that blends the creative and business sides of the music industry—all set in Los Angeles, a global epicenter for music and entertainment. This vibrant location not only enriches the learning experience but also provides unmatched access to industry professionals, top-tier studios, and real-world networking opportunities.

Throughout the program, students will dive into songwriting, music production, and recording, while also gaining essential knowledge in areas like copyright law, royalties, and artist management. Hands-on workshops, guest lectures, and visits to iconic music venues and studios in L.A. bring classroom learning to life.

By the end of the course, students will have sharpened both their artistic and entrepreneurial skills, culminating in a final project—such as a demo track or music marketing plan—that showcases their talent and vision. Graduates leave with a strong foundation and valuable industry insight, ready to take the next step toward a career in music.

Hands-on Learning

From writing and recording original songs to producing and editing demo tracks, students actively engage in every stage of music creation. On the business side, they’ll dive into the fundamentals of artist management, contract negotiations, royalties, and branding. With guidance from industry professionals and access to professional-grade tools and studios in Los Angeles, students apply what they learn through interactive projects and collaborative workshops, building practical skills they can carry into future careers.

Career Exploration

Through hands-on experiences and insider access, this course gives students a behind-the-scenes look at a wide range of careers in the music industry. From visiting professional recording studios to exploring the Grammy Museum’s exhibits on music history, production, and red carpet fashion, students gain insight into the many roles that shape the industry. Guest speakers and excursions introduce them to career paths in songwriting, producing, artist management, marketing, and more, helping students discover where their passions and talents fit within the music world.

Meet Your Instructor

Charles D. Wilson is a seasoned musician and songwriter, with over 100 songs featured across commercial platforms, television, and film. For the past decade, he has been based in Los Angeles, where he’s collaborated with artists, digital influencers, and media makers, shaping music, entertainment, and socio-political campaigns. Charles has a deep connection to the NAACP, having overseen music submissions for the annual NAACP Image Awards, and has honed his expertise in artist development through his work in A&R at Warner Music Group. His experience also spans collaborations with top lifestyle brands like Beats by Dre and Amazon, where he sourced and built partnerships with brand ambassadors.

Currently, Charles serves as the Associate Director of Talent and Entertainment Relations at Propper Daley, a leading social impact agency in Los Angeles. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is a dedicated advocate for the music industry as a voting member of the Recording Academy, where he champions the rights of music creators. Recently, Charles published On My Last Nerve, a book aimed at helping readers raise awareness about mental health and manage anxiety.

He holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and Supply Chain Management from Clark Atlanta University.
