Summer Springboard
Design Thinking & Rapid Prototyping
Course Overview
In this course, students will build their own 3D printer, one they’ll use throughout the program and take home afterward. Designed for those interested in engineering, product design, and manufacturing, this course provides hands-on experience with the growing field of additive manufacturing.
Students will learn how to quickly and effectively design and produce 3D-printed prototypes, gaining essential skills in 3D CAD design, including design methodology, geometric modeling, and assembly modeling. The course also covers the fundamentals of 3D printing: how to choose, operate, and maintain a printer, work with various materials, and apply effective printing techniques.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped to create functional, visually polished 3D-printed products—valuable skills for future careers in design, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.
