Course Overview

Are you looking for an exciting career in travel or translation? Or perhaps you desire to
boost your skills and you salary as a bilingual professional. Spanish language skills
are in high demand in the United States, with over 43 million families who speak
Spanish at home. If you want to improve your Spanish, along with your resume and
opportuities, Spanish Language Studies 101 is the course for you.

In this course, you will develop your skills in Spanish focusing on all forms of
communication: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course will be
interactive enough to allow you to improve your language fluency. Whatever you major,
a minor in Spanish will teach you enough Spanish to be considered for positions that
are in need of bilingual skills.

Claudia Gwinn

Spanish Language Studies Cal Poly SLO

Claudia Gwinn is from Barcelona, Spain. In addition to lecturing at Cal Poly, she teaches ESL to migrant workers through The Field Institute as a substitute and does translations and interpretations for local schools, like Family Partnership Charter School.

Course Structure


There are nine 3-hour class sessions over the two-week course. During week one, students have class from 9am-12pm, Monday-Friday. During week two, students have class from 9am-12pm Monday through Thursday. Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to additional academic time (excursions).
