About This Course
The Spanish Language Studies course immerses high school students in a two-week, skill-building experience focused on all aspects of Spanish communication.
Participants engage in dynamic classroom activities designed to enhance listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities while deepening cultural understanding of dialects and customs across Spanish-speaking regions.
The program includes hands-on excursions where students visit local businesses to practice their skills in authentic settings and explore professional and academic applications of Spanish. Guidance on Spanish majors and minors further helps students envision career trajectories that leverage bilingual proficiency.

Meet Your Instructor
Claudia Gwinn is from Barcelona, Spain. In addition to lecturing at Cal Poly, she teaches ESL to migrant workers through The Field Institute as a substitute and does translations and interpretations for local schools, like Family Partnership Charter School. Claudia speaks Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Chinese.
