About This Course
A fashion program for teens on a university campus in New York City
Ignite your passion for fashion and explore a world of career possibilities in one of the world’s most iconic fashion capitals. Known for legendary fashion events, world-class designers, and dynamic style scenes, New York City serves as a powerful influencer in the global fashion industry—offering the perfect backdrop for hands-on learning and creative exploration.
Throughout the program, students will dive into the business side of fashion, gaining real-world insights from seasoned industry professionals. Inspired by the iconic Steve Madden brand, they’ll examine key topics such as consumer behavior, trend forecasting, and brand strategy. The experience builds toward a creative challenge: developing and presenting original conceptual bag designs for Steve Madden. The program culminates in a final showcase at the Steve Madden headquarters in New York City, where one standout student design will be selected for a special award.

This immersive program blends real-world exploration with industry-driven instruction, offering a deep dive into fashion merchandising and retail marketing. Guided by professionals and inspired by Steve Madden, students will study consumer behavior, trend forecasting, visual merchandising, and store management. From mastering market research and procurement strategies to developing innovative design concepts, you’ll gain practical skills and insider knowledge. Throughout the program, you’ll build a professional portfolio that showcases your creativity, business acumen, and readiness for a career in fashion.
Career Exploration
Explore a wide range of fashion careers as you gain firsthand insight into the fast-paced world of fashion merchandising and retail marketing. Through industry-led workshops and real-world experiences—including visits to the Fashion Institute of Technology and NYC’s iconic fabric district—you’ll discover roles in buying, product development, visual merchandising, and brand strategy. Learn how to identify trends, understand consumer behavior, and navigate the fashion business from concept to sales. By the end of the program, you’ll have built a professional portfolio and presented your own Steve Madden bag design at their headquarters, giving you a unique glimpse into what it takes to succeed in the fashion industry.

Meet Your Instructor
Los Angeles-based fashion and celebrity stylist Joy Bridges, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, infuses her work with an innovative yet chic sensibility. Mentored by industry leaders like Law Roach and Zerina Akers, working closely with stars such as Beyoncé and Ariana Grande.
Now making waves in Hollywood, Joy’s diverse client roster includes Grammy-winning artists Coco Jones and Lil Nas X, along with basketball icons like James Harden. With her dynamic storytelling approach to fashion, she brings a wealth of experience to her role by inspiring students with tales of liberation, self-love, and diversity.
