TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE

Hands-on Learning

This immersive, hands-on course puts students behind the lens as they explore NYC’s architectural landmarks. Under the guidance of a professional photographer, students will actively practice using digital cameras or smartphones to capture both interiors and exteriors. Through real-world photo shoots, they’ll experiment with composition, lighting, and styling techniques, gaining practical experience and insight into how a professional sees and frames the world.

Career Exploration

This course offers an inside look at photography as a creative career path. Students will gain hands-on experience through fieldwork and independent shooting sessions, building a portfolio of original images captured at iconic NYC locations. Along the way, they’ll explore the professional side of photography, learning how to evaluate and refine their work, use industry-standard techniques, and develop a personal style. The course culminates in a portfolio review with the NYSID Admissions Team, giving students the chance to receive real feedback and explore future opportunities in visual arts and design.
