About This Course
The Nursing in Berkeley program provides high school students with a two-week immersive experience into the world of nursing.
Students learn key concepts of patient care such as anatomy communication physiology and public health promotion alongside understanding the role of evidence-based research in healthcare decisions.
The course emphasizes the translation of theory into practice through simulations in a nursing skills lab where students perform assessment techniques and Stop the Bleed training. Participants grow their decision-making and leadership abilities essential for effective clinical care.
They also gain insight into the daily routines of nurses and the broad range of roles they serve within health care systems.
TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE
Hands-on Learning
Students will visit the University of San Francisco (USF) Nursing Simulation & Skills lab where they will get to use the Virtual Reality goggles and the simulation lab for assessments. Following that, they will transition to the skills lab for a Stop the Bleed workshop, where they will practice specialized techniques.
Additionally, they will be given a tour of their beautiful campus.
Career Exploration
The students will have an opportunity to meet with the admissions team for the Berkeley Extension Pre-Nursing Preparatory program where they will learn about opportunities to get an early start on nursing pre-requisite courses that they could begin right after high school or complete in a 2+2 model (2 years of courses through Berkeley Extension and 2 years in a 4-year university program.)
