Medical Research

Meet Your Instructor

Dr. Muriel Solberg is a Yale School of Medicine physician and published researcher whose work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals including JAMA Network Open and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. With ten publications to her name — spanning surgical outcomes, gender equity in clinical training, and telemedicine — she began contributing to peer-reviewed research as an undergraduate and has maintained an active scholarly record throughout her medical training. Dr. Solberg has also designed curriculum for Yale medical students and led a program introducing high school students to the medical field, demonstrating a rare combination of research depth and a genuine gift for teaching the next generation of aspiring physicians.

Halla Bates is a Yale Emergency Medicine resident and incoming Chief Resident completing her training across Yale New Haven Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center, Bridgeport Hospital, and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. She earned her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine and her BA in Anthropology and Spanish from Bowdoin College.

Before medical school, Halla worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and as a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she studied immunotherapy toxicities in the Departments of Nephrology and Oncology — research that has since led to several peer-reviewed publications.

A passionate advocate for underserved communities, Halla has volunteered with Boston Health Care for the Homeless, served as a medical Spanish interpreter in the Dominican Republic, and led her medical school’s Healthcare Alliance for the Homeless. At SSB, she brings both the clinical expertise of an emergency physician and a genuine commitment to medicine as a force for equity.
