About This Course
A art and design program for teens on a university campus in New York City
Guided by professional designer, students will learn the fundamentals of layout, composition and best practices for presenting their work in a professional portfolio, with the objective of being prepared to apply to college art and design programs. This course introduces students to a wide variety of art and design disciplines, ranging from 2D composition, graphic design, and digital tools like Photoshop and Canva, to drawing and collage.
In the first week, students will sketch, experiment and explore multiple design disciplines in order to identify gaps in their current portfolios. In the second week, they’ll choose two areas of focus to create portfolio-ready projects. By the end of the course, students will leave with design and art pieces, either new additions or a strong start to their art portfolio, that can be used in applications to art and design schools, as well as a template or format for their polished portfolio.
Earn College Credit: Students can earn one college credit applicable toward an undergraduate degree at NYSID or to strengthen future college applications.

Students will discover multiple types of design paths they can pursue and discover which speaks to them. They will meet industry professionals and learn under esteemed NYSID professors.
