Testimonials

  • I learned amazing things that I didn’t think I would be exposed to before medical school! Summer Springboard helped me confirm my love of medicine!

    Megha J.

  • The classes were useful and helped shed light on different aspects of the medical field, and the various careers you can choose from within the field.

  • The Emergency Medicine track 100% confirmed that science is what I want to study in college and that I want to be on the pre-med track. I did in fact mention the program in my application more than once. I made sure to include it in my activities section as well as two essays for two different colleges.

  • Honestly everything, the RAs, the trips, the teachers, the campus. It was all amazing to me. I was apart of the emergency medicine track, and I’ve found myself using different skills I’ve learned even in different subject. I’ve used suture knots in my art and bio classes. I’ve gotten to help other people make basic decisions if something hurts based off of what I learned. It was a really valuable experience. I also made a lot of amazing friends, and still talk to them this day.

Course Overview

This program gives you a 360 degree view of the medical and healthcare field through immersive learning and hands-on projects. In the first week, students will learn how to take vital signs and perform CPR. They will also work on key wilderness medicine techniques and visit a simulation lab where med students and faculty are trained and evaluated.  In the second week, students put their skills to the test in a mass casualty incident simulation during which students triage and stabilize victims. By using an experiential learning approach, students will quickly engage in these topics, and the instructor introduces the underlying theory and concepts as students tackle issues while working to support, diagnose, and save their patients.

Hands-On Learning

Learn basic medical skills and get training on how to handle situations when medical care is not immediately available. Simulations will allow you to learn and practice hands-on medical techniques including positioning and extraction, wound care, control of bleeding, stitches and sutures, usage of splints and slings, and other useful potentially life-saving skills. In small groups, your medical team will be required to research the patient’s history and symptoms, create a diagnosis based on your findings, and develop a treatment plan.
