EXPLORE AEROSPACE ENGINEERING WITH HANDS-ON PROJECTS ON THE CAMPUS OF UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

THIS IS A ONE-WEEK PROGRAM WHERE YOU’LL FOCUS ON ONE COURSE FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION.

Middle School Aerospace Engineering

  • Discover how airplanes and rockets fly through fun and hands-on experiments.
  • Learn the basics of motion, gravity, and forces that help aircraft and spacecraft take off.
  • Build and test your own paper glider, balloon rocket, or simple launch model.
  • Meet real aerospace engineers and hear what it’s like to work in space and flight industries.
  • Explore academic and career paths in aeronautical and astronautical engineering fields.

About This Course

Launch your curiosity and build real rockets, gliders, and experiments while learning the science of flight. Summer Springboard gives middle school students a unique chance to explore aerospace engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Ever wonder how rockets blast off into space or how airplanes stay in the air? Our course makes these questions fun and hands-on. Students get to build and launch their own gliders and model rockets while learning the science behind flight and space travel. Beyond classroom activities, students will meet real aerospace engineers, hear from guest speakers, and take academic excursions that help them learn more about design.

No previous experience in advanced math or science is needed, just curiosity, creativity, and a love for exploring how things fly!

TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE

Hands-on Learning

Over five action-packed days, students will explore the science of flight and space through interactive lessons and hands-on projects. They’ll design and launch their own gliders or model rockets, test flight ideas, and experiment with aerodynamics to see engineering in action.

Excursions will include a tour of the Museum of Flight and a lab or department to see how engineers design and test aircraft and spacecraft. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look at real-world projects and learn how ideas become working flight technologies.
