THIS PROGRAM COMBINES ACADEMIC COURSES, INTERACTIVE LABS, AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO GIVE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS A SUPPORTIVE, FUN, AND ENRICHING SUMMER EXPERIENCE.

THIS IS A ONE-WEEK PROGRAM WHERE YOU’LL FOCUS ON ONE COURSE FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION.

Middle School Business & Entrepreneurship

  • Collaborate to invent a business idea from scratch in a team setting.
  • Develop strategies to market and sell your innovative product or service.
  • Create a compelling business plan to impress mentors and potential investors.
  • Pitch your venture in a fun, Shark Tank–style presentation to expert panel.
  • Engage with entrepreneurs and visit local businesses during hands-on excursions.
  • Experience the Seattle area and the beautiful University of Washington campus.

About This Course

Students in this program will become part of a new company they devise and will work in teams on various aspects of the new business.

They will dive into the world of business and learn how companies work. Students will explore the secrets of making things, telling people about them, and selling them.

They will get a chance to hear stories from entrepreneurs who have started small and made it big. The program culminates in a Shark Tank-style pitch presentation.

 

TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE

Hands-on Learning

Students will have the opportunity to engage with entrepreneurial and business veterans. During academic excursions, guest speakers will share their wealth of knowledge and encourage career exploration. Hands-on learning is experienced through visits to local big and small businesses.

Meet Your Instructor

Amelia Marckworth is the Director of Community Engagement at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at the Seattle University Albers School of Business and Economics, where she also teaches two undergraduate entrepreneurship courses. With nearly a decade of experience leading programs for startups and local businesses, she has reviewed more than 500 business plans and coached hundreds of startup teams, including dozens of investment-ready companies from around the world.

Amelia previously served as City Lead for Founders Live Seattle, a monthly startup pitch competition with chapters in more than 100 cities globally, and volunteers on the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) Startup Committee, advising on program strategy and community needs for early-stage startups across Washington State. Her work has taken her around the globe, coaching university startup teams in Vietnam, Russia, India, Mexico and South Korea.

Amelia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law, Societies and Justice from the University of Washington and a Master of Nonprofit Leadership from Seattle University. She is passionate about making entrepreneurship accessible and exciting for the next generation of thinkers and builders and looks forward to helping Summer Springboard students discover their entrepreneurial potential and develop the mindset to turn their ideas into reality.
