About This Course

A music production program for teens on a university campus in Nashville

Summer Springboard’s Music Production and Management program provides high school students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative and business aspects of the music industry. During the course, students will engage in songwriting, music production, and recording, while learning critical music business concepts such as copyright, royalties, and artist management. Students can visit world-class studios and learn from leading professionals during excursions and guest lectures.

By the end of the program, students will have developed both their creative and business skills, completing a final project and leaving well-prepared to pursue a career in the music industry.

TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE

Hands-on Learning

From writing and recording original songs to producing and editing demo tracks, students take part in every stage of music creation. On the business side, they explore the fundamentals of artist management, contracts, royalties, and branding. Guided by industry professionals and working in Nashville’s professional studios, students apply their knowledge through interactive projects and collaborative workshops, building practical skills for future careers in music.

Career Exploration

Through hands-on experiences and insider access, this course offers students a behind-the-scenes look at careers in the music industry. Based in the heart of American music, students will visit a professional recording studio and learn about the city’s rich music history. Guest speakers and excursions highlight paths in songwriting, producing, artist management, and marketing, helping students discover where their passions fit in the music world.

Meet Your Instructor

Eric Holt is an Associate Professor of Music Business at Belmont University’s Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business. He is also the co-founder of The Lovenoise Group, a diverse lifestyle marketing and concert promotions company that has made a significant impact in Nashville’s live music scene. Holt holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Howard University and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School.

With over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Holt is widely recognized as an expert in branding, marketing, and Black music. He is a sought-after speaker at universities and corporate events, where he delivers impactful insights on leadership, strategic management, team development, and goal setting. As a consultant, he works with entertainment professionals and business leaders to develop effective promotion and branding strategies.

Holt is deeply committed to giving back to his community, serving on several national and local nonprofit boards, including the Give-A-Note Foundation, Nashville Public Radio, and the Nashville Jazz Workshop. A graduate of the prestigious Leadership Music program, he also serves as a Chapter Governor for the Recording Academy and mentors young industry professionals through the Black Music Action Coalition/Academy of Country Music OnRampprogram. In his free time, Holt enjoys attending concerts and traveling with his family, continuing to draw inspiration from music and culture around the world.
