About This Course
The Web Development program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo offers a two‑week intensive immersion into the fundamentals of building modern websites.
Students explore the evolution of the Internet and learn client‑based development workflows, focusing on skills in HTML and CSS. They apply these skills to produce accessible and responsive websites designed for optimal performance across devices. Through a mix of group and individual projects, students analyze best practices in current web design and culminate the course by deploying a live website that includes its own unique URL.
The program also features guest sessions with local web professionals to give students real-world insight into web development careers.

Hands-on Learning
Students practice designing and coding their own websites and gain industry insight by meeting with local web development professionals.
Career Exploration
Through interactions with local web development businesses, students learn about career paths in web design, front-end development, and digital agencies.

Meet Your Instructor
April Elliott is a Graphic Communications department Cal Poly alumnus where she earned her Master of Arts in Education with specialization in Curriculum and Instruction. She also earned her BS in Graphic Communication with concentration in Web and Digital Media from Cal Poly.
April’s specialty is graphic design using the Adobe Creative Suite. She has worked as a graphic designer designing the graphics for screen printing and embroidery at J. Carroll Corporation.
She also serves on the executive board for the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Central Coast chapter where they are working to bring design into the community through workshop, mentoring programs and special events. She currently teaches Digital Publishing Systems and Web and Print Publishing at Cal Poly.
