Academic Courses
At Summer Springboard we believe learning should be inspiring and interactive. We have worked hard to design courses, field trips and guest lectures that reflect the resources of the Georgetown University campus area. Whenever possible, classes are held outdoors, on-site or in a lab-type setting to allow students as many ’hands on’ opportunities as possible. Field trips and guest speakers take the learning experience beyond the classroom and leverage all that DC has to offer.
In addition to our morning academic courses, students spend the afternoons either in skill labs working on hands-on projects, or attending academic excursions that expose them to real-world professionals in their field of study. Students also participate in recreational activities, creating a supportive, fun, and enriching summer experience.
Middle School Business & Entrepreneurship
Students in this program will become part of a new company they devise and will work in teams on various aspects of the new business. The program culminates in a Shark Tank-style pitch presentation with industry veterans as their potential mock investors.
STEM: Exploring Engineering & Clean Energy
In an ever-evolving world, technology is driving progress and addressing the urgent need for a healthier planet. This one-week program for middle school students combines engineering principles with clean energy solutions to demonstrate how technology and sustainability can work together. Through interactive projects, students will explore how engineers tackle real-world challenges in sustainability, giving them the tools and inspiration to help shape a cleaner future.
Beginning with an introduction to engineering and problem-solving, students will receive a strong foundation in the basics. From there, they’ll quickly move into hands-on activities, designing and building various projects. These include experiments like creating water filtration systems and building a small solar-powered car to explore solar energy and design principles. Throughout the program, students will also examine the ethical and cultural aspects of designing sustainable solutions.
Middle School Medicine
This program provides middle school students interested in pursuing medicine with real hands-on experience where they can build a set of medical skills at an early age.
Imagine being able to set a splint, stop a bleed, and perform CPR as a middle school student! Students will learn medical techniques through age-appropriate simulations and guided lessons. In addition, they’ll work with small groups to research a patient’s history and symptoms, create a diagnosis based on findings, and develop a treatment plan
Middle School Trial Law
This program introduces students to vital techniques that are used by trial lawyers throughout the United States. Real world experts will share their knowledge about Trial Law and students will hear the inside scoop on law school and the admissions process.
Excursions at Georgetown – Students will visit the United States Supreme Court. This will be a unique opportunity for students to ask questions and get exposure to a “day in the life” of legal and judicial experts.
