About Hosting
Summer Springboard is partnering up with APEX EDUCATION USA, a small cultural exchange and hosting stay provider. APEX serves students in France and Italy who seek cultural exchange and host stays in the US. Under this new program, European students can stay with US families, and as part of that stay attend one of our SSB programs as commuters.
This opportunity is available for Commuter families at our UCLA, UC San Diego, and Barnard College campuses.
Why Host an International Student?
It’s a chance for your family to share your home, culture, and even a bit of language exchange with an international student wanting to experience daily life in the U.S. Your family also has the opportunity to make a meaningful connection with a student from another part of the world.
FAQ:
What should host families provide?
Families should treat the host student as one of their own, involving them in family activities, meals, events etc. Breakfast and Dinner (Mon – Fri) and 3 meals on the weekend.
Provide student with a clean single room (100sqft min) cupboard space and a window.
Have a telephone number where they can be reached.
Agree to show host student around the local area after arrival and take them on at least one outing a week and spend time with them as if family came to stay.
Are there any restrictions or expectations?
No other guests or paying guests should be accommodated at the same time as the host student unless a prior agreement as been made.
Other languages outside of English should be limited to no more than 1 hour per day while the student is present.
