Summer Springboard
Middle School: Robotics & Mechanical Engineering
ON THE CAMPUS OF UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

BUILD, EXPERIMENT AND BRING YOUR IDEAS TO LIFE AS YOU DESIGN ROBOTS, EXPLORE MECHANICAL SYSTEMS AND SOLVE HANDS-ON ENGINEERING CHALLENGES.
THIS IS A ONE-WEEK PROGRAM WHERE YOU’LL FOCUS ON ONE COURSE FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION.
Middle School: Robotics & Mechanical Engineering
- Assemble a motorized robot and discover how its components work together to create movement.
- Explore mechanical systems.
- Challenge your robot to navigate an obstacle course or complete a hands-on task.
- Create a mechanical device or robotic attachment, test your design, and make improvements.
- Work in teams to complete a final engineering challenge and demonstrate your creation.
- Discover how robotics and mechanical engineering professionals use creativity and problem-solving to design innovative solutions in the real world.

About This Course
Step into the exciting world of robotics and mechancial engineering, where creativity meets innovation and big ideas becoming moving, working machines. Students will build simple mechanical systems, assemble motorized robots, and experiment with gears, wheels, motors and movement. Through guided projects and team challenges, students will learn to design, test and improve their creations while developing practical problem-solving and engineering skills.
Explore how robotics and mechanical engineering shape the world around us. Students will discover how engineers design robots, develop machines, and create solutions for industries such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and automation. Through practical activities and real-world examples, students will learn about engineering careers and the creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills these fields require.
TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE
Hands-on Learning
Throughout the week, they will assemble robots, construct simple mechanical devices, test different designs, and troubleshoot problems. By applying the engineering design process, students will discover how small changes can affect a machine’s movement and performance.
