BLOG POST FOR JULY 7

Summer Springboard is off to a great start at the New York School of Interior Design!

Students arrived on campus, settling in and meeting new faces as they gear up for two weeks of creative exploration and hands-on learning. The vibe is relaxed but energized, with students already connecting over shared interests and the inspiring design-focused environment. Nestled right in the heart of NYC, this program is the perfect blend of big-city buzz and creative focus.

Over the next two weeks, students will dive into immersive courses, explore the city’s design scene on exciting excursions, and participate in True You sessions to help them discover more about themselves and their passions. Whether sketching ideas in class or soaking up inspiration around town, this group is ready to make every moment count.

We’re excited to see what’s ahead!

Here are some highlights from the start of the program:

  • We had a smooth check-in process with our new SSB friends from all over the world. We had to have New York pizza to start the week!
  • The students settled into their groups and got a tour of Stuy-Town and our boundaries near The New York School of Interior Design.
  • Our Mentor groups went all out on their groups poster, inspired by New York Classic sandwiches.
  • Our Interior Design student went ahead and made their first inspiration board!
  • We rode the subway for the first time, a bit crowded but nothing we couldn’t handle.

Our students have wrapped up an inspiring first week full of exploration, innovation and new connections. From immersive academic courses to their first True You workshop, they’ve been diving deep into fresh ideas and discovering what fuels their passions. The atmosphere is buzzing with creativity as they connect with peers and take in the vibrant energy of New York City all around them.

This week’s excursions gave students the chance to explore artistic and cultural highlights, spark fresh inspiration, and bond through hands-on activities and shared experiences. It’s been amazing to see how quickly they’ve grown more confident, curious, and connected.

With Week 2 just ahead, the excitement is building! More creative challenges, personal discoveries and unforgettable moments are on the horizon. The best is still to come!

Here are some highlights from the first week of the program:

  • New year, new pages, and amazing new SSB friends from across the globe! Students are leveling up their study skills and their goals! Ready to conquer the college experience.
  • Students are stepping into the artist’s shoes to cut, arrange, and set their very own vibrant mosaic panels.
  • We had an amazing group mentor session at Central Park! Enjoying the scenic views and lively park atmosphere.
  • The entire program had the opportunity to visit the world renowned Sici tile factory! All of our students were able to work with tiles to create a beautiful art piece.
  • Students learned about the admissions process and how to create an outstanding art portfolio for the college application process.
  • Students played picture bingo in the yearbook club and winners won a small treat.
  • We were lucky enough to witness the New York Subway’s magic by ending up in someone’s engagement shoot on our commute back to the residence hall!

BLOG POST FOR JULY 17

That’s a wrap on a memorable Summer Springboard experience!

What a journey it’s been on campus. After two incredible weeks of hands-on academic courses, inspiring True You workshops and adventurous weekend excursions, our students have crossed the finish line of an unforgettable Summer Springboard program. They’ve explored new ideas, challenged themselves and made friendships that will last long after they leave campus.

Throughout the program, students gained valuable insight into their college major interests and career aspirations, while reflecting on the kind of learners and future professionals they want to become. From engaging classroom discussions to real-world experiences beyond campus, this summer has been all about growth, discovery and setting the foundation for what’s next.

We’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them. Here’s to new beginnings and exciting futures ahead!

Here are some highlights from the final week of the program:

  • Students enjoyed some fantastic excursions around the city: We had an amazing time at the MoMA! We had some shopping time in SoHo and 5th Ave. We toured a private interior designer shopping building in midtown. Enjoyed some time at Chelsea Market. Trading the classroom for a 40-foot virtual drop over Times Square.
  • We went to 6 Flags and were able to ride on some pretty cool roller coasters! We came for the rides, but we stayed for the funnel cake and laughs.
  • We went to Area 53 to zip line, play games, and rock climb.
  • Students presented their final projects to the entire program!
