About This Course

An astrophysics program for teens on a university campus in Berkeley.

Do you have a strong curiosity about how the universe was formed and what secrets it holds? Our Astrophysics program offers you the opportunity to explore one of the most intriguing and expansive fields of science.

Over two weeks, you’ll dive into the fascinating world of astrophysics, gaining a strong foundation in key concepts, participating in hands-on projects, and discovering the limitless wonders of the universe. The course aims to foster a deep understanding of our universe and encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

TOPICS YOU'LL EXPLORE

Hands-on Learning

Hands-on learning is a key part of the Astrophysics program, giving you the chance to apply theoretical knowledge through practical experiences. You’ll engage in observational activities, analyze real astronomical data, and work on interactive projects that bring complex concepts to life. This approach not only deepens your understanding but also builds valuable skills in research, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry.

Career Exploration

Career exploration is an integral part of the Astrophysics program, helping you discover the many paths available in this dynamic field. You’ll learn about careers in research, space exploration, data science, engineering, and more, while gaining insight into how astrophysics intersects with technology, climate science, and innovation. Meet Your Instructor

Dr. McLin holds his PhD in Astrophysics from University of Colorado, his MS in Astronomy from University of Washington and his BS in Physics from UC Davis. He’s been a science educator for over 25 years with a primary interest in optical observational astronomy, managing small telescopes and teaching astronomy and physics from the introductory through graduate levels. He’s a co-author of “The Big Ideas in Cosmology” and has developed a number of courses for science teachers in K-12 and college. Kevin also enjoys providing informal astronomy education through his work at Starwerk.net where he offers night sky explorations.
