We had a fun start to the Summer Springboard program here on the campus of UCSD!

Students from across the country arrived in sunny San Diego, ready to kick off an exciting week of learning, growth and connection. After checking into their residence halls and meeting their roommates and mentors, students quickly began building new friendships, energized by the coastal breeze, shared goals, and the stunning UC San Diego campus nestled near the Pacific Ocean. The atmosphere is already vibrant as everyone starts settling in and embracing this new adventure.

Looking ahead, our UC San Diego students are preparing for an engaging lineup of hands-on academic courses taught by passionate instructors, inspiring excursions around the greater San Diego area, and True You sessions focused on self-discovery and future pathways.

Whether soaking up the sun during outdoor activities or collaborating in classrooms with panoramic views, this group is poised to make the most of every opportunity that comes their way. We’re excited to see all the memories and growth that the next week will bring!

Here are some highlights from the start of the program:

• Check in went amazing! Students were outside playing a big game of uno/card games with each other!
• The students met their mentors and filled out a survey with all of their favorite things so we can all get to know them better and try to personalize the activities as much as possible!
• A large group of students went to target with mentors for snacks, etc.
• The students had pizza and salad all together while doing fun icebreakers.

That’s a wrap on a memorable Summer Springboard experience!

What a journey it’s been on campus. After one incredible week of hands-on academic courses, inspiring workshops and adventurous weekend excursions, our students have crossed the finish line of an unforgettable Summer Springboard program. They’ve explored new ideas, challenged themselves and made friendships that will last long after they leave campus.

Throughout the program, students gained valuable insight into their interests and aspirations, while reflecting on the kind of learners they want to become. From engaging classroom discussions to real-world experiences beyond campus, this summer has been all about growth, discovery and setting the foundation for what’s next.

We’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them. Here’s to new beginnings and exciting futures ahead!

Here are some highlights from the program:

• Marine Biology students had a blast on their daily excursions and were in awe of the blue whale and her calf swimming next to the boat as well as the dolphins jumping out of the water.
• Medicine students really enjoyed their academic excursions and got a close up look at the life of a paramedic as they visited the local firehouse.
• Psychology students had a first-hand look and participated in a dissection of a sheep brain.
• All of our residential students had a blast in our cookie decorating contest. The first prize was the Lorax cookie followed closely by the dinosaur. A great time was had by all.
• All students had a great afternoon at the San Diego Zoo. The pandas were definitely a favorite stop and quite a few loved the reptile exhibit.
