BLOG POST FOR JUNE 30

We’re officially underway at Summer Springboard on the campus of the University of Washington!

Students from across the region and the world arrived in Seattle, kicking off an exciting week of learning, exploration and connection. After checking in, settling into the residence halls and meeting their mentors and roommates, students quickly began forming new friendships, energized by shared curiosity and the beautiful, tree-lined UW campus in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. With Mount Rainier in the distance and the iconic Husky spirit in the air, this session is already off to a strong start.

Now it’s time to dive in. Our UW students are gearing up for hands-on academic courses taught by experienced professionals, memorable excursions around Seattle, and True You sessions designed to spark personal growth and future planning.

Whether they’re walking Red Square, collaborating in classrooms, or discovering what motivates them most, this group is ready to take on everything Summer Springboard has to offer. The week is going to fly by!

Here are some highlights from the start of the program:

  • We had a great check-in process with our middle schoolers who are super excited for their classes!
  • The students had a fun time playing Mingle Mingle and Gimme Gimme as ice breakers, including some very spirited competition.
  • Mentors and students connected in their mentor groups by meeting each other, coming up with their team names, and learning more about each other’s interests outside of SSB.
  • Students enjoyed a pizza party dinner and chatted with their new friends and mentors.
  • Mentors and students bonded over a friendly game of soccer at Denny field and playing fun board games, like Uno, Jenga, and 5-second Rule!

BLOG POST FOR JULY 3

That’s a wrap on a memorable Summer Springboard experience!

What a journey it’s been on campus. After one incredible week of hands-on academic courses, inspiring workshops and adventurous weekend excursions, our students have crossed the finish line of an unforgettable Summer Springboard program. They’ve explored new ideas, challenged themselves and made friendships that will last long after they leave campus.

Throughout the program, students gained valuable insight into their interests and aspirations, while reflecting on the kind of learners they want to become. From engaging classroom discussions to real-world experiences beyond campus, this summer has been all about growth, discovery and setting the foundation for what’s next.

We’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them. Here’s to new beginnings and exciting futures ahead!

Here are some highlights from the week:

  • We are wrapping up a wonderful week of Summer Springboard here at UW with our middle schoolers, who will celebrate with a lunch and closing ceremony!
  • Our Aerospace students went on some exciting trips this week, including a visit to Boeing Future of Flight and SpaceX, and will test out their model rockets during class!
  • Our Medicine students had eye-opening visits to a local hospital, where they were able to learn about ultrasounds and supplemental oxygen, practice intubation, tour an ambulance, and get CPR certified!
  • Our Business and Entrepreneurship students had awesome visits to tour Microsoft headquarters and visit a local candle making business where they got to make their own candles!
  • Students and mentors enjoyed some fun at Husky Hub, where they had a chance to go bowling, play pool, ping pong, and video games, and we celebrated 2 birthdays!
